This is a beyond rare section of saber cat mandible (lower jaw) with two teeth. This specimen was found on the Texas City dredge piles in the 1970's and is from the well known George Wolf collection. This specimen has been in our private collection for close to 10 years. It is rock solid and very heavily mineralized - very heavy for the size, it weighs 2.6oz. It has a mostly complete lower carnassial (m1) still intact as well as a partial last premolar (p4). The carnassial has a great shearing wear pattern indicating that this specimen was from an elderly individual. The enamel on the carnassial is exceptional and is truly marbleized - pictures do it absolutely no justice. Fantastic representation from a beyond rare species. This is the only section of saber cat jaw that we have ever offered for sale. This is such an incredibly rare specimen - out of literally millions of fossils we've handled over the years we have only ever handled five Smilodon jaws.
