This is a very rare section of mandible from the extinct giant tapir species, Tapirus haysii. This species is from the early Pleistocene and is far less common than the late Pleistocene T. veroensis. This specimen has portions of four teeth still intact. The jaw is solid, heavy, and very well mineralized. This is a great example from a very rare species.
