This is a simply world class, museum quality, and incredibly rare mastodon axis (C2) vertebra. This specimen was found at the world famous Leisey Shell Pit by well-known collector Frank Garcia. This is a very large specimen that is heavily mineralized, it weighs 6lb 11.0oz. It is perfectly preserved with ultra-crisp features all around. Near flawless condition. Beautiful mottled patina. This is a very impressive specimen that makes a fantastic display. To say that pictures do this specimen no justice is truly an understatement - they do not come any finer than this. This is likely the best mastodon axis that we have ever offered for sale. Museum quality piece with impeccable provenance.
