In isolated bison bones and teeth one cannot accurately determine the species that produced the fossils. The bones must be found in direct association with a horn core or a thoracic vertebra. Luckily, this metacarpal was found with its associated horn core. This is one of only a very small handful of latifrons fossils that we have ever offered for sale. Not only is it from a very rare species, but it also has a unique pathology - likely from a healed injury. Incredibly well mineralized and heavy specimen; it weighs 1lb 15.7oz. Very detailed with crisp features all around. Fascinating and incredible specimen.
