This is a very nice and high quality flex scute from the early Pleistocene lesser giant armadillo. This species was the less common ancestor to the late Pleistocene giant armadillo. This specimen is incredibly well preserved specimen with crisp features all around. These flex scutes are much less common than the pentagonal scutes. Scutes like this are what allows an armadillo's shell to flex and move when the animal walks.
