This is a very attractive giant beaver molar (tooth) with gorgeous glossy black patina. Pictures do this specimen absolutely no justice, it is much nicer than it appears in pictures. It has a great wear pattern to the occlusal (chewing) surface. Great tooth from an uncommon extinct species.
